Newbee with manual question

Post by hd4tools »

Hi Guys,

Newbee to this board and this generation of trucks. I've had a bunch of Mopar musclecars (when the average guy could afford them) and later generation trucks, but just picked up a 1970 D200.

I am looking to buy a service manual and have been looking online but the manuals I see don't seem to match my truck. I haven't run into this before with the car manuals.

My VIN ends in 001184xx

all the manuals list Starting serial "1872000 or 7086000" for the 1970 manuals

Any suggestions?

I don't know of any "free" PDF manuals for the Sweptline trucks. Either look on Ebay, or Irv Bishko http://www.autobooksbishko.com/ or something like that. I'd go with a paper Original Manuall myself. I'm not sure if the PDF ones are "searchable" or if the images are of good quality. Jut my thoughts. OR wait and go to a car show like Carlisle or Hershey. I'm sure you could find one there.

This is the correct manual:
http://www.autobooksbishko.com/Items/19 ... l/689.html
It is a reprint of the original and is WAY BETTER quality than the original.
I know that for a fact due to having purchased an original for my 70 W200 from the dealer in 1978. The Bishko reprints I have purchased are heavier and higher quality paper with heavier covers. My original, as well as several other originals I have acquired over the years are falling apart. Any original you might buy on ebay will have the same age induced disintegration.

That's good to know. So, the images are good quality too then I suppose? I didn't think about the old 50+ year books falling apart. The one I have for my '68 (two books a '67 and '68 supplement) are still pretty good shape. Then again, I RARELY look at them.

That's the one I was looking at, but again the serial number thing threw me. Never seen that on the car manuals and didn't want to waste my money on getting the wrong thing that wouldn't have the info I needed.

Are you sure it is a 1970? You should also be using the last 6 digits, not 7 or 8 as you used in your examples.

Yes, The year digit in the VIN calls out 1970
