Can anyone tell me what this is for? As you can see it is located under the steering wheel next to the turn signal indicator. Wire going to it is orange. This is on a '69 column.
Thanks.
What is this? for?

Re: What is this? for?
I'm going to say it is the light bulb for lighting the PRND21 indicator. Make sure the bulb works before putting it back together! The bulb would be inside the blue shield.

Yup. Light bulb. 69-71 column in an early truck, so all the wiring of the column is different than the wiring under the dash.

Re: What is this? for?
Thanks. I unwrapped the wiring coming from the steering column and the orange wire wasn't connected to anything so obviously the light wasn't working. What should this be connected to? I looked at the wiring diagram for a '69 but didn't see a bulb for the column or where it should go.
Re: What is this? for? Gear indicator light for automatic column
No experience with the truck wiring, but......
On the cars, orange wire is typically accessory lighting circuit.
Look for an orange wire under the dash with a female plug to insert the bullet connector from your column light into.
It should come on with your parking lights / headlights.

I'm not 100% familiar with the 69-71 years... but LOOK for a plug that may have 3 HOLES in it. Use a test light and turn on the lights and see if your test light lights up. IF so... plug it into one of those holes. OR.... follow one of the dash lights and see where that plugs in. LOOK at this diagram for a 71. Looks like there should be a extra wire called "EXTRA EQUIPMENT" for your light to plug into. SORRY, the image I am sending isn't any good, but you can find the spot on the schematic you can download here"

69 columns don't use bullet connectors.

Ah.... very good point! Well... I did mention that I wasn't familiar with the 69-71 models. (Whew, I covered my bases on that one )

You can find a feed for this on the backside of the fuseblock. The instrument panel lamps are fused within it. There is a male slip-on terminal on the backside for additional instrument lamp connections. I'd recommend you utilize a slip-on connector with a flag terminal. This would allow you to add another connection in the future.
