Headers for 1967 D200 now W200 LA318 engine

Post by Johns67 »

Been a long time since I posted.
I have a 1967 D200 and I turned it into a 4x4.
What headers can I purchase for this truck?
I like the long headers that are stainless steel.
My 318 has been built with a Edelbrock cam, intake, 4 br carb, and flat top pistons.
Soon I will install the Edelbrock aluminum heads.
There are way to many posts about headers, but I can't find the answer to my question.
Thanks!~Johns67

Short answer.... Block Hugger [shorty] headers would be where I'd start.
There are no long tube headers I know of that work on a pre-'69 W100/W200
with an LA318 in it.

I have had Hedman long tube headers on a 66 and a 70. Not stainless. Maybe they don't make them anymore however.

They are probably Hedman 79010. They even sell them at Walmart.

That's good to know :salut :Thumbsup . I was under the impression that they weren't
a direct bolt in for stock W series trucks.

I used Headman long tube headers on my stock 68 W100. Fit great. I believe the stock number is 79016 but you would need to check it out? I They may not list the sweptline in the application section but they do fit.

Thanks!~for all your help pointing me in the right direction.
Hedman headers seem reasonable.

The numbers you gave me are both correct for the 1967 318 D200. They are 1 5/8 in. tubes.
79010 full length uncoated...$265.99 Walmart.
79016 full length coated...$758.92

So I looked up the 1967 W200, but no LA 318 listed just 383 and 400 engines.
Was that supposed to be 440?

*** There was a note that the 361-440 were 1 3/4in. tubes for the 1967-71 1/2 or 3/4 ton 4WD.
I did write that right 361-400...can that be right?
Never heard of a 361 or a 400 engine from Dodge.
The 383 and 440 are big block heads and the headers wouldn't fit the small block LA heads?
So it appears they never put a 318 in a W series Dodge truck?

Those numbers are...for the W200, but no LA 318 listed.
79250 uncoated $360.75
79253 black max $629.93
79256 coated $756.79

I think I will call them Monday.

The 79010 and or 79016 seem like my best bet with the position of the starter, engine mount, and heads.

Thanks again!~Johns67

361 and 400 are BB engines of that era.
440's were never offered in the sweptline trucks.
318's are the most common V8 in ALL sweptlines.
Never rely on aftermarket parts suppliers to determine what was and what wasn't....
