I can't say if all Budd 5 lugs are the same pattern. I think IH & others may have used them too. Also 20" isn't the only diameter wheel with that pattern. 17.5" & 19.5" are out there too.

You may have to have something custom made. Also look into vintage military vehicle websites, like steel soldiers. It's possible that 5lug pattern appeared on some military rigs as well, but likely they are still split-rims too. Split rims were common into early 70's.

Another possibility is finding 10 lug rims that have same diameter on the bolt pattern & using only 5 of the holes.

If you know somebody with a mill and a rotary table, there is a way to drill what you've got with a new bolt pattern (not a big fan of aluminum adapter plates). How those patterns would overlay structurally would depend upon their respective geometries (circle diameter in particular), but I would think that if one left a cut-off stud in the unused holes, the integrity of the hub flange would be good. Have you considered a 10-bolt pattern? Might be an easier conversion.

I know someone with a CNC machine. I'm not a fan of adapters, either.

I will see if I can get my hands on a bolt pattern tool to see if any 10-lug are close. Otherwise, I'll keep doing research. If I could get an aluminum 22.5" blank I'd be set. Surely they exist somewhere. Similarly, there must be able hubs that fit on this thing. I cannot fathom it's a single-use axle. Therefore, other hubs exist that can be fit.

The hunt is part of the fun, but boy...there's not a lot of data on these things.

The person with the CNC likely has access to a coordinate measuring machine for QC purposes.

The Dodge flat fender power wagons also used 5 lug Budd type wheels. Not sure if same pattern but I do know that many owners have been able to switch to solid wheels. Maybe ask around on the power wagon site.

I've sourced an F-450 (1995, actually F-SUPERDUTY) front axle. 10 lug with hydraulic disc brakes. This will be a significant improvement. I think it's a 5000 lb axle as opposed to the stock 4000 lb axle. Not really big iron, but it should work well for my immediate purposes. I'll go get that this weekend and start the process.

Yeah - but I already did. Budd-type wheels on the front and Dayton-style on the back. Is what it is.

The lug pattern you have there is known as "5 on 8", as in 5 lugs on 8 inch circle. It can be found on many medium duty trucks of the 50s/60s. While it uses the same lug nut, it is not the same pattern as used on the WM Powerwagons, M37, M43, etc, which is a smaller bolt circle.

I had a 1960 IH B140 with that pattern. The B140 had actual split rims on it when it came to me, as in the rim splits in 2 down the middle, just to the side of the center disc(a Firestone type). Best to just get those on the scrap pile.

However, if you have lock ring wheels on there(one bead is a split ring or two piece ring, etc), which is far more likely, they are not nearly so dangerous to work with and many are still in use and being serviced to this day.

Fwiw, the F-superduty axle is astonishingly heavy. It has 3" leafs, 34 inches apart. My D400 has 2" leafs, 28 inches apart. I'll weld new mounts on the frame. The Ford suspension is much better. I'm not sure how the track is going to fit with the D400 body, but I can say that I'm more in the mood to roll the crap out of the fenders than to cut and narrow the axle.

I probably should have gone that route, but now I'm going to fit an F-superduty front axle on it. For my time and effort, I get HD disc brakes, heavier axle, heavier springs, shocks, steering buffer, modern parts....

I don't know how wide it'll sit, yet, but I'm inclined to flare fenders etc as necessary.
