Hood ornament and shifter boots
Hood ornament and shifter boots
I have a 68 w200 Fargo power wagon and it’s missing the hood ornament and both shifter boots.(4spd and transfer case) Can anyone provide photos of these items so I can see what I need to replace in order to keep the original appearance

Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
68 did not have a hood ornament or a transfer case boot. transmission boots are really hard to find as they are no longer made
Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
Ok...thanks....I guess I’m welding up the holes in the hood and looking for some sort of transfer case boot to serve my purpose.

Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
Somewhere I have seen a company specializing in various universal boots. 4x4 groups possibly

Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
The problem is the 2 sticks move independently so a normal boot doesn't fit when the sticks are at opposite ends. Someone told me they planned to make a seal out of opposing brushes. I vaguely remember a factory seal that stretched to accommodate that condition, but that memory is 40 yrs old.

When did the t-case boot appear?

69, when they went to the single stick NP 205 - but good luck finding one of those boots too.
Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
My 67 W-200 with the twin transfer case shift rattles quite a lot, so I plan on taking a bias ply tire cut a piece of the side wall a bit bigger then the elongated hole in the trans hump, cut a groove around the perimeter then cut a slit in the top of it to accommodate the shifters. Just so happens I have a NOS 7:50-15 Atlas White wall to sacrifice for the project. As for the 4 speed shift boot, I have purchased one for a 67 GMC comes with the metal ring that sandwiches the boot to the trans hump. I will pull it off that truck and fit to the Dodge tomorrow and report back. I know that I also bought the foam rubber doughnut that goes over the shifter under the boot. All from LMC Truck Parts. They have a online catalog.

There are all kinds of rubber floor mats, mudflaps, etc, in various thicknesses that would do that easier than a tire.irontwist wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 9:32 pmMy 67 W-200 with the twin transfer case shift rattles quite a lot, so I plan on taking a bias ply tire cut a piece of the side wall a bit bigger then the elongated hole in the trans hump, cut a groove around the perimeter then cut a slit in the top of it to accommodate the shifters. Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
In my 66 W100 I kept it simple. Under the carpet is 2 pieces of rubber floor matting screwed to floor butting together for the twin sticks to slide through.
For the lever rattle I have used a spring attached to under dash brace and simply hook it to levers when in 2 wheel drive to stop rattles. Been like that 40 some years. It works.

Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
Thanks for the suggestions....I like the idea of the rubber with the slit cut in it, I think ill give thay a try. As for the rattling shifters, I wish I could hear that but unfortunately I have only driven it a few hundred feet so far. Should be on the road this summer once I get all the little things fixed and get it through a safety check....local car show in August and my goal is to have it parked next to my 67 Belvedere convertible!!! MOPARS or NO cars!!
Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
dodgeboykim thanks for the spring idea in conjunction with the rubber. Better than ear plugs. Slacked on the late post.

BTW, bad transfer case stick rattle can be indication of worn jackshaft u-joints or splines.

Re: Hood ornament and shifter boots
OMFG. I was out 2 years. Big deal. Like 2 years is going to really matter. 54 years. Is that better.
Maybe I should be Tarred and Feathered for such a horrible mistake.
