Poly Headers

Post by dbolterII »

Howdy, Starting the tear down on my ~64 d~100 318 Poly NP 420 trans...

Looking into headers, and wondering if anyone has installed TTI Poly headers with success?

Also wondering what problems I may run into?/? Starter, trans, Steering box etc...

Any info, advice much appreciated ~d

Crossmember under the bell is the biggest nightmare. That's why the poly headers designed for the swepts by Stan's are the answer.

Might consider these adaptors. from Bruce Toth. Use Gen 1 hemi headers and have a good exhaust shop route your pipes. :thinking :Thumbsup

I went with the Toth adapters which use Gen 1 Hemi headers (331,392 Hemi). I bought the adapters and headers second hand from a guy who thought they would work on a car application. They didn't fit his car, so I got the adapters and headers for a steal.

Anyway, the adapters are nice, although they kind of block the spark plug access, and I purchased heat shield boots for my plug wires, as they would be touching the header adapters. They headers that I got with the adapters are not the greatest quality, so hopefully they seal properly.

I considered buying header flanges for the Poly off of ebay, and a set of these shorty headers for an early Hemi, and cutting the header flanges off and welding it back together with the Poly flange, but then I came across this deal.

This engine is not in the truck yet, but I think fitment will be fine.

I don’t think they would clear the pro shaft. I am in the same boat with my truck. I fear it will get worse when the 440 goes in it.

Yes they do clear the factory winch PTO driveshaft. Mopar Norm had these designed to fit in the D / W 100-300 with the factory winch and bellhousing crossmember. I have had these headers on my 62 W100 with factory winch and my Dad's 64 W300 with a factory winch setup. They fit the 61-66 Town Wagons as well.

What did Dodge use for the "factory winch"? Mine is a Braden with a 1.25" shaft. It's big, so the offset from the NP201 t-case is considerable. Did the shaft go outside the headers?

Factory winch on W100 and W200 trucks were the Braden LU-2 with the 3 piece pillow block mounted drive shaft from the 10 bolt FTD-7 PTO off the NP201 transfer case. The W300 used slightly different driveshafts and mounting brackets due to the larger frame. The c-shaped frame extensions on the W100/W200 fit on the exterior of the frame while on the W300, they fit on the inside of the frame as the 300 and up frames were much bigger. The W500 and W300M used a Braden MU-2 winch.
