replacing carb. 4160 or 4150; which way to go?

Post by wthatchsr »

Greetings All and Happy New year!
Well, made to another one. I am still kickin but my 'Mistress' is struggling. She is a 66 D100 318la. I am looking to replace the carburetor that came on the truck. My question to the group is " which would be the better way to go; a 4150dp or a 4160"? I am not looking for hot rod but more for good everyday. I love the look of the old girl; little rust with a nice green work truck tint from a previous life.

Opinions???

Thanks,

Bill

I don't know much about Holley carbs... but I've had a 4160 on my Roadrunner since 1986. So.... I think it's a GREAT carb! I had to figure out if it were a 4150 or 4160. The 4160 only has ONE metering plate with single fuel feed, and that is what I have. NICE Carb! I don't think you would need a DUAL feed carb for just "driving" your truck. I would think that would be more in line with "performance".

personally i cant stand holley carbs. one back fire and the power valve is blown. carters are the most durable, reliable, best performing carbs in my experience. now they are made by edlebrock as afb 4 barrels. I just took a brand new holley 2 barrel off my 361 with blown power valve and put on a rebuilt carter two barrel. runs 100 times better.

Holleys are much easier to tune and work in general, jets, power valves, float adjustments are quick and easy but Carters just seem to require much less maintenance in the drivability department.

I have run both but I stick with holleys easy to work on and have never blown a power valve on back fire.i guess I’m lucky.
