rear bumper colour

Post by fireguyfire »

I'm getting ready to sand blast and paint the rear bumper from my 1970 d100. My truck has one of the dealer installed type step bumpers that is either grey or silver painted. I have also seen these types of bumpers painted white while researching the colour.
What colour do you guys suggest would be correct for this type of bumper?

My suggestion is silver. In my opinion, silver would be more in line
with the Sweptline era. :2cents :Thumbsup

Silver paint can come in TONS of "shades". So... my best recommendation is to go to a paint store (automotive) and pick one. I DO NOT recommend buying the "Chrome" paint in spray cans. To me, it just looks "cheap". Also, I 'think' in my OPINION that Aluminum paint also looks "cheap" like the Chrome paint.

OR, if you're just wanting to paint it silver and save $$ buy a quart of Rustoleum Silver. SPRAY it on, don't use a brush. Just some thoughts. Silver can be tough to paint so you don't get 'trails' in your job, but a bumper is pretty easy as it is small. I forget what I used Rustoleum Silver for, but it must have turned out OK, as I still have some in my cabinet. :Thumbsup

Hope that is what your looking for? :thinking

What color will the front bumper be? My 68 had a dealer installed rear bumper that was White and matched the factory White front bumper.

The front bumper was originally white, but was chromed years ago by the previous owner

Well that would depend on what bumper your truck had. If it was some sort of heavy steel bumper, So many variations were supplied probably from dealers and who supplied that dealer. I have seen many variations of step style bumpers in person and here on the forum. :thinking :thinking
My truck is younger than me.
