Stromberg to Carter change over

Does anyone know when the change was made on the 318 from Stromberg to Carter two barrel's?
As far as I know the 318 poly was ended in 66 right? And the LA 318 went in for 67?
Is that when the change was made to Carter too?

I have a 66 shop manual and it only lists Stromberg specs for the 318, but there is known to me at least one 66 poly that has a factory supplied Carter. Is it one of those things that often happens in manufacturing where the change over was sort of staggered,...sometimes to use up parts in the pipeline?
I'm new to the Dodge truck scene, and am just getting some of this sorted out in my brain.
Any info someone could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Canada had the Poly part way through 67. I have a 67 D300 with the Poly. My 66 W100 has been running a Carter for 35 years. I also converted my truck over to Cable throttle 34 years ago. Not that the cable should have much bearing on carb selection. :lol:

My Chilton's lists Stromberg for 1967 & Carter BBD for 1968 for the 318. Other engines switched at a different time.

I could also check this against my parts catalog. It is based mainly on model no., S/N, motor and trans.
When I bought my first service manual 45 years ago, I learned that the model year on the title doesn't always tell the whole story. I ordered a 66 manual, but it started with S/N later than mine.
I see 66 W200 with 318 and 4-speed. I'd need your truck S/N (can use "x" for last 3 digits, if you want to).
(I hope you can trust a "roll tide" guy to give you an accurate answer. :lol: )

Hello Harris,
Haha,..no problem. Even though the wife is a professor at AU,..we're pretty tollerant of the "other place", haha.

The serial number definitely makes it a 66 but I don't know if it's early or late 66.
Last four digits are 9350

The data tag held a few other gems that I hadn't noticed.
It had a special added tag, a sticker really, that showed "special equipment"
It noted that it has " special hubs FT, with a SERT # 16500"
There are manually locking hubs on the front and maybe that's the special equipment?
I have no idea what SERT # means.

The truck also apparently came with a three speed transmission and now it has a four on the floor. Once I saw this I noticed that the cover on the hump is a different color from the other interior metal. Funny the things you notice once you start to look. The data tag also said it had 164 HP,...is that the HP for the 318? There is definitely a 318 poly in there now,...it has the funny scalloped valve covers and the engine number
B 318 12-17 stamped into the block on the drivers side below the valve cover. Is there anything that can be learned from that number too?

Thanks from War Eagle country....

Any non-standard part would be listed on the SERT sticker (or VIN plate on later trucks). SERT stands for Special Equipment Release Truck.

All part-group part numbers of the non-standard options are listed on the SERT sticker/plate or SERT summary (The SERT summary is a part number that summarizes what is in the group). Each SERT number corresponds to a SERT sheet, which the production line would use to add the part to the truck either on the line or in the 9190 repair department at the end of the line.

Steve,
Sorry for the confusion, but it's the first part of the S/N that I need.
I'm new to the forum too, and I don't know if folks publish their entire S/N here, so that's why I added the stuff about the Xs.
I know very little about all of the variations over the years, like soopernaut and others on here.
But maybe the parts book will tell you something. But maybe that SERT sticker overrides the carb in this case.

Re the block:
B = series designation
318 = displacement
12 = month built
17 = day built.

Unsure where else the series designation applies.
Example 1: the C series is either a 170 cu in 6 cylinder or a 318LA (except premium).
Example 2: the B series is a 170 cu in 6 cylinder, a 273 cu in 8 cylinder, or (like yours) a non-LA 318.
Above applies only thru 1967 model.

There are no changes in 66 that make early or late relevant.
Sounds like a slant 6 with column shift 3 speed originally.
Run your vin thru the registry decoder for more info.
