I bought a new steering damper for my truck as the old one had less resistanse in it than a bicyclepump:

I looked at solid axle setups which used a mount that clamped around the tie rod and then the mount attached to the axle. Not sure how you would keep the axle mount from sliding. Obviously you need a fixed point strong enough not to fatigue. You'll see some really nice brackets sold here that might give you ideas: http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/
