Getting ready to drop the engine and tranny out of my 70 d100.
Following along the shop manual and when it comes to removing the shift lever it says to push down on the lever retainer, rotate 180 and pull out.
I'm not having any luck figuring out how to get it out; any suggestions?

Re: Manual shift lever removal
Use a pair of channel lock pliers set wide. Set the pliers on their side on the sheetmetal cap at the base of the stick and push down (into the tranny). The cap has a heavy spring underneath. After pushing down, rotate the cap about 1/8 turn CCW, release pressure, and it will pop up. Lift the stick out.

Disregard; I figured it out.
The cap you need to turn was seized so after some persuasion and some PB blaster I freed it up and removed the shifter.
