BB starter

Postby PwrWgnDrvr » Fri Jun 23, 2017 8:57 am

Needed a 2 bolt starter for 68 383 with hydro bell. Ordered locally for $58 rebuilt, the supposedly correct part #25206 was on order. Rebuilder sent the 3 bolt small block starter instead. Was told that was all that was available. The only other source was priced at $168.
Brought the wrong one home, removed 2 bolts, a roll pin, slid the 3 bolt nose cone casting off and installed the 2 bolt casting from mine. Dumped all the parts back in the box to return for core charge. Got what I need and saved an easy $110!

Terry, 25206 is the number for a small block starter. 25207 is the big block starter and my local napa says it is available for 94.00 exchange.

Ok, that explains it Bud. When I told them it was supposed to be the part #25207 u gave me, the "old" guy at the counter said "206 is the hi torque starter, they don't make the 207 low torque anymore, but they are the same." Since I had no way to confirm that while standing there, I said fine, get the 206. I'll go chew his @#% for that, but the swap was so damn easy I'm not unhappy at how it worked out.

Good show! :Thumbsup

I feel dumb now though. I had ordered one of those and after waiting too long realized it wasn't going to work so resold it. I then ordered the right one through DB Electrical. I should really work on my resourcefulness - but its hard to get my mind in that space when I have a brand new part that doesn't fit.

Is your 400 BB in front of a Hydraulic Clutch bell housing?
There are at least a couple of "2-Bolt" MoPar starters.
The ones for LoadFlite/TorqueFlite trannys are still
inexpensive and available....

No, it has an A727. Didn't see where he mentioned the hydro bell.

Well yesterday I put a new style magnum motor starter on my truck. It is absolutely night and day from the old starter. It's starts so easy now it's ridiculous. I had no idea the small block starter fit on a big block. Best part is that you can pick them up at the you pull for about $25 and they are very plentiful.
