Header options for a 68 D100 440 w/ Crown Vic IFS swap

Post by moore7568 »

Does anyone know if there is a long tube header that will fit?

I installed a 500 Wedge in my 68 at the same time I swapped the straight axel for a Crown Vic IFS.
It's a really sweet set up, but the IFS interferes with the headers.
I've tried the BB Headers for a truck and a set of B body hookers, both of which do not clear the IFS.
Currently running some shorty's with 3" pipes that run all the way back.
Sounds great, but I believe that I'm giving up some HP with the Shorty's.

If long tubes are a must, then you will either have to get a custom set made or modify an existing header to make it fit. I would pick the set that requires the least amount of modification and start cutting tubes till it fits, both them on and get some mandrel bent tube in the size of the header tube and start fabricating your masterpiece.

I don't think you losing too much power going with shortys like you currently have. Modding headers is a long hard way to get maybe 10 hp, if that much. Long tubes only really open up the breathing potential of the engine in the higher RPMs anyways.

I'm locked in with the Shorty's for now. I need to figure out traction with what I have before looking for any stray HP.
440 Stroked to a 505. All 44 Source parts 10.5:1 compression with the CNC Ported Stealth heads.
Comp Cams Roller with .571" lift and 252 intake and 258 exhaust duration at .050"
575HP with 610 ft# Torque on the dyno with a 30 year old distributor, 34 degrees advance all in, a dyno carb and no tune.
Since I've gotten it installed and driving, I have the timing at 38 degrees and the motor really likes it.
3.91 gears and a Hughes 3000 Stall, she'll spin those 295/20/35's through all 3 gears.
3" hand built exhaust tops it off.

Lot's of detail work left to do, but it's off the stands and on the road.
