Thanks. Have you ever took the wing-nut off & looked inside?

I think my 69 GTX had that dual snorkel set-up.

Oh yeah, I've opened it up once or twice, that I remember (when I swapped out the leaky fabric-covered hyd hoses, and changed the fittings around). Didn't really think about *maybe* it could hold a filter, although there certainly wasn't one in there. Interesting thought, if that's where you're going. I work on boats, so I'm familiar w/hyd systems. There is a label on the can: it mentions what grade oil to use and nothing about a filter.

It just looks like it could house a filter inside, like you'd see on tractors.

I'm wondering myself now. I always thought it was a tractor-derived set-up. In looking at my own pic, the arrangement of the supply/return lines certainly lend themselves to a filter configuration. The boats I work on tend to have large centralized systems, with separate components. Looks like I'm going to pop the top off this week :)

Just my 2 :2cents, I don't think an intake and 4-barrel was any type of option on a sweptline. The only way you would get any of those options is if a HP package motor was available. There not going to just slap an intake and 4-bbl on a motor. It would be more likely that the dealer could have added some MP stuff, but it wouldn't be anything like what you have. The only dual snorkels for trucks where motor homes as far as I know, until they started with the lifestyle trucks in the later 70's. The type with the round snorkels is an early style like 67 and down. The late-model style would have the square snorkels. Motorhome style didn't have heat riser dampers like the cars did, so if has vacuum dampers it was for a car or the later 70's trucks, like the LRE, etc.

This is a motorhome late-model air cleaner.
