Post by Mike8623 »

Guys, I've got a 1963 D500 dump, where can I get a radiator for it?

I have 2 out of the big trucks. What is the part number on yours? Yours not repairable?

Yes, the radiator guy said it was shot and unrepairable. I'll get a number for you in a bit, at the moment I'm wore out from trying to move a large shed.

Pwr wgn........There is a number on the top stating Mo-Par 1936196. On the side of the radiator top there is a tag that reads 029118.

Both of mine are absolutely identical to each other, but one has the same number as yours, 1936196, and the other has a tag with a different number soldered over that. Can't find any differences. One has been rubbed by the fan, the other is pretty decent. Both have shrouds. I pulled them from wrecking yards so don't know anything else about them. Do u ever get to the Bay Area?

not any more used to live in Susanville. Moved to Montana about 9 years ago. Live in a little town called Lincoln. It is between Helena and MIssoula. How much you want for the best radiator? Do you ever get over toward Chico or Susanville?

Just curious, how do medium series radiators differ from those used in 100/200 trucks? Does the fact that truck frames are different mean that radiator core supports aren't the same either?

Rad in my 70 D 500 is taller than a pickup rad due to extra height from frame risers. Was a 3 row but was recored with a 2 row with bigger tubes to increase cooling. Or was it a 4 row recored to a 3 row. Cant remember. Been 10 years since it was done.
My truck is younger than me.

Core supports are the same, but they sit higher on the frame and the taller radiator hangs lower than a 100/200.

Thanks. I figured it was something to that effect. Sorta like why the 300/up trucks have that filler panel/valance below the grill.

Yup, that filler panel aligns with the fender where the bumper does on 100/200s

Put an ad in the Parts Wanted section. :idea :2cents

Check some local boneyards. Maybe there's one near you
that has one that can still be re-cored.

Are you trying to keep it close to original? I bought an aluminum three row for $168.00 off eBay. It did't bolt up like the listing said, but I made some mounting brackets and it cools better than any stock one ever could.

I could care less what it looks like. I just want it to cool my dump truck so I can run it. You would think something out there ought to bolt up.

The smaller ones from a 100/200 truck would bolt right in since the radiator support is the same. I don't know if they would cool enough, but they cool the same engines in smaller trucks.

^^^ This is what I was thinking. The bigger/heavier trucks would "work" the engines harder plus theoretically have slightly less airflow since the are routinely driven at slower speeds or operated in a stationary position for extended periods of time. I could see the need for more cooling.
But I think a light duty truck radiator could work depending on conditions.

the big truck radiators hold probably 3 times the coolant. they are huge. aluminum is not an upgrade. they don't last as long and although they can cool a little faster than copper they cant cool as much. if you get low on water and are far from a source the copper will keep shedding heat at a much higher level than aluminum.
