rear bumper colour

Post by fireguyfire »

Thinking of restoring the rear bumper on my 69 adventurer which has the rear steel bumper with checker plate. It has a fair bit of surface rust and I plan on removing it, sand blasting it and painting it.
The remaining paint on the bumper is quite old (probably original) and its hard to tell whether it was originally painted a grey colour, or a silver colour.
Anyone have an insights on a colour I could use when I repaint?

Those are aftermarket bumpers so there is no official color. Most were galvanized, not painted.

Those rear "Step Bumpers" look good painted Silver. NOT that "Chrome" Spray can paint though, that just looks CHEAP.

I'm with Jim & Terry on this.... I think silver looks the best.

This was mine after a fresh coat of silver paint, I also painted the receiver and loops black at the same time. I also replaced the plate lights with NOS ones and swapped out the trailer plug. The license plate mounted a little high for me so I got a 6" x 12" aluminum plate and drilled holes in the middle that would attach the plate to the existing holes in the bumper and tapped holes in it to attach the license plate, It also protected the license plate from an accidental stepping on.

Local cop gave a guy a ticket for an "obstructed lic plate" when he had a ball hitch in that center hole in front of the plate. What a crock, but found out that's the efn law here!
Then u get all the gay girlie men with their POS bike carriers and such that totally block the plates, driving all over the town, unharrassed!

Not easy to see in that picture but it has a 2" receiver, here is the before picture,

and one showing the lowered plate.

I had some meter maid try and say my plate must be in the factory location, I asked for the section number, shut them up.
