The auto was available in 70-71 on Power Wagons. Is it a 383 truck? I've searched for 318, auto PW 70-71 trucks and seem to find a lot more with the 383.

What would make these trucks a more rare find? Other than dude package, maybe a factory 4bbl? Or AC? I would think automatics were getting common by then

Since the 440 was not an option in the trucks (and all 440s were 4-bbl engines, other than the 440+6), anytime you see a 440 is when it was installed after the fact.

The 383 in the pickups was a 2-bbl ONLY, from everything I've ever read on 383s in Swepties. In fact, there was not a 4-bbl option with ANY engine in a Swepty!

And lastly, the automatic was available as far back as 1956.

4V's were probably available with a SERT tag.
There was not anything post 68 that would be considered "rare", except maybe map pockets on the doors.
For "rare" u need to look at HPP or CSS trucks with one off options.

Didn't the 426 come stock with a 4bbl?

They did. I didn't mention them, as the topic vehicle was a '70. :study :Thumbsup

I disagree somewhat. I've had an interest in these trucks since 1961 and you don't see a lot of factory automatic W's at all.

It's a 318 truck and just because it was an option doesn't mean many people order edit. Was just curious if it was more desirable than the dome a dozen four speed trucks

One listed today in the members for sale section.
Maybe few people ordered it because it is a LESS desirable setup.

It might have had something to do with added cost for an automatic?

Interesting info in the '70 price booklet. The auto trans has a msrp of 257.30, the 445 was 128.10 and the 435 102.30. The 3 spd A230 was standard.
The '69 price booklet does not show the auto trans being a option on the W series.

I have found more than one "book/catalog" that stated the automatic wasn't offered in the W series until 1970.
Yet trucks have been seen with them, even back in the 50's PowerGiant days.

I think the longer automatic transmission body did not work with the transfercase used '68 and earlier W series trucks.

Yeah, I forget about the 426W trucks at times.
