Tranny fluid type?

Post by oldfrogdiving »

I'm working on getting my resurrected 66 D200 back on the road after years of sitting in the bushes, Shes running good after rebuilding carb, cleaning points and changing the oil/filter. I want to change the 4 spd tranny oil next so I looked in the owners manual and it specified 50wt engine oil for above 32 degrees op temp or SAE 90 mineral gear lubricant or SAE 140 for extreme temps) is lucas 90 wt gear oil comparable? I believe its a NP 435 tranny. I cant wait till this girl dances down the road.

90 wt gear oil.
If there's no water or sludge in it and not black or discolored, I wouldn't change it.

Just don't use synthetic in a 435, you will not be able to shift it. 80-90 only.
