I don't think 68s had this, only 69s.

Sooper is correct 68's didn't have reflectors.
You can find 69's with the chrome back plate or the earlier ones without the chrome.
Keep checking e-bay, craigslist, or local wrecking yards, etc.

No, this is not what I said. 68s had reflectors but not the backing plate.

"To my knowledge until 1969 none of them came with oem side reflectors, only aftermarket. None of the sales brochures from 61-68 show or list side reflectors as standard or optional equipment. My 68 W200 never had them.
My guess would be that if they had them they were dealer installed and made by Grote, etc., which is why they won't have any type of backing like the 69's.

Those part numbers I listed are in the '68 parts book. Notations beside the part number indicate a new listing.
They are not shown in the body illustrations.
Must be a mid model year change as there are a few "up to serial # xxxx - after serial # xxxx" for other side lights.

My 68 had the factory reflectors with a mopar pentastar on them. My truck was almost all original, at least 95%. There are way too many 68s with them for it to be a coincidence or a dealer install.

The numbers ufo listed are correct for 68 & 69.
Prior to June 1968 they were not Chrysler, so if your truck was built prior to June it would not have oem reflectors. The oem reflectors listed by ufo were not available from Chrysler until June of 1968.
One other interesting note is that for 1969 the chrome bezel was only used on the 100 and 200 series "sweptline" only, all others were non-bezel.

My turn to chime in. I have wrecked a number of 68 (1 69 made into a trailer) trucks in years past and all had round reflectors with or without chrome backing (metal) . I still have quite a few chrome backs and some reflectors to fit. 68 was the year that side reflectors/lights were mandated by the Feds.
My truck is younger than me.

So where did you end up finding this information?

The only place I found the part numbers was here: http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=99 and they have them listed as 61-72.

Right from my original 61-68 & 69-71 Dodge Truck Factory Parts Manuals.
All those website search engines are data-bases that have been created by someone other than Chrysler, so they are not going to be as accurate as Chrysler print.
To prove it was a mid-year change, the actual page for Group 8-48-12 "Reflector" in the FPM was printed in June of 1968 and supersedes October 1967. The original page from October 1967 has no Group 8-48-12 or part numbers for Reflectors.
How do I know this? the manual has a double box asterisk next to the part number, which "indicates parts not listed in any previous parts book".

When Chrysler made changes to there parts availability all dealers got the updates for there manuals and they are printed clearly as to when they supersede all previous printings.

Mark has it right. I only have the one book that covers 1968( dated april 1969). Under that date printed it states it supersedes three other parts book.
For the 69-71 book , The parts person kept all the update pages along with the instructions of what page the new one supersedes.

Mark,
Meaning for '69 100 and 200 Utilines, no chrome bezels were factory installed?
Just curious. :thinking :Thumbsup

My 68 D100 had chrome backed reflectors. I don't like the look so I removed them but I don't know where they are.....

That just proves they were sometime after October of 67 and before June of 68. It doesn't prove that the reflectors were added in June. The 68s came out in October of 67 and the 69s came out in August of 68. From what you are saying is that 2 months worth of 1968 trucks had reflectors and the rest didn't. Again there are way too many 68s with reflectors for this to be fact.

Here is real evidence that reflectors were available on, or before, February 23 1968:

Not beat a dead horse into the ground, but there is nothing referring to reflectors. If you believe lights are reflectors and optional equipment was standard, then yes you are 100% correct.

My 68 d100 adventure was 100% stock with 54k original miles and has the reflectors bought the truck from a 90 year old man who bought it new
