I have a 70 dodge PW 3/4 ton. I removed the bolts that hold tank to back of cab, and got the fuel filler neck out. What the problem is the safety belts on the floor are in the way. I can almost squeeze the tank out without removing the safety belts but not enough room. I am jammed up. I tried removing the plastic covers off the safety belts but can't get them off to get to the bolts to remove safety belts. How do I get the plastic covers off? I take it that's what has to be done to get the tank out?

You should be able to take the belts out with the covers in place, you only need to loosen them enough to pivot them down so the tank will clear.

Okay, how do I get to the bolts with the covers on? There is no bolt heads exposed?

Mine must be missing the pieces that snaps on.Wizard wrote:Okay, how do I get to the bolts with the covers on? There is no bolt heads exposed?

These were designed to be removed so look at the covers and see what it would take to snap it off?

Yes, I have been pulling on the plastic pieces and also trying to get them off with screwdriver but they are not budging.

I got the tank out. Had to bust the plastic on the drives side a little to get wrench on bolt head to loosen. Plastic would not budge off by pulling.

There is a hidden tab that holds it on. Haven't had to remove mine in over 30 yrs so don't remember the trick that solves that *#%^$.

I had the same problem. For those of you with this issue in the future, use a heat gun to warm up the plastic - it becomes much more malleable and you can work it off of the belt reel.
