31 gallon suburban gas tank

Post by kurt »

I finally got my fuel system done. I am running a fuel injected 5.9 Magnum so needed a 45 PSI fuel system. I also plan to cruise this truck so wanted a 30 gallon tank. What I found was the 1991 suburban tank. It is 31 gallons. They had TBI so the tank is setup for fuel injection and I was able to buy an Edelbrock MPI pump that fits 100PSI 255lph. I am running auto-meter gauges so i got the fuel gauge to fit a chevy 0 ohms empty 90 ohms full. I also have a summit return regulator and 6an and stainless lines.

I added a couple cross bars between the frame and used the stock tanks straps to mount it. I used camper weather stripping between the tank and the bars. I will paint it all black in place.

Very nice install. You'll have the "but it's not a Mopar part!" whiners, but you went with what works for the application. Looks good!

Thanks Patrick.

I forgot to mention its a 1966 Crew Cab so the lifestyle tanks beside the drive shaft do not fit. Going in the spare area was my only option.

I am sorry for bringing back an old thread, but do you have any pictures of it with the bed on? how noticeable is it? Thanks, JH

No problem, Here are a couple of pics. The sun was bad this morning when I took them. Its lower than it should be put above the pumpkin. For me this is a normal height street truck so I will live with it to have 31 gallons of gas and an in tank injection pump.
