Spare tire quandry

Post by DaveRoss »

OK, I give up. Where do ya store the spare tire on a 71 sweptside? There's no carrier underneath, and no brackets (or holes for one) in the box.

I could just throw it in the back, but geesh...

The normal place for a spare is under the bed near the rear bumper. Look under there and see if you have a bracket on each side of the frame with 4 holes in it. There should be one on each side. Then the tire carrier fits onto those brackets with a clevis pin. A hook at the rear with a thick wing nut holds the tire up. If you would like photos, let me know and I will be happy to email some to you.

Thanks Jim, that's it.

Both brackets are there, but no accompanying hardware. At least now I've got a starting point.
