shifting rods on 69 3 speed column shift

Post by DB69 »

I have a problem with the rods sticking when the truck is warm or has been run awhile, it usually gets stuck in 2nd gear and I have to unstick the rods so that I can shift . I have lubricated them but the problem still persists. what else could be wrong with it? the truck only has 13,360 miles on it.
Also does NAPA still sell the master cylinder for this truck?
Thanks to all for help and advice :salut

DB, under the hood, where the shifter crap is on top of the column. there is a U shaped bracket that holds both shift levers, at the bottom of that bracket (the side furthest from the fire wall) there is supposed to be a wave washer between the bracket and the bottom of the shift arms. these wear out and break pretty easy, thus leaving more slack in the arms then was intended. this lets the selector pin go between the shift arms, rather then engaging in the slot where it belongs. check the slack on your arms at the column. if you can slide them apart, or move the whole assembly up and down the shifter shaft at all then you got too much slack. i put a small stack of washers on mine to remove the slack and keep the arms togather like they belong. worked like a champ. :Thumbsup
