Engine Swap Question

Post by Navyguy »

I own a 68 D-100 with the 225 Slant 6. Is there a V-8 engine that is compatible with the existing motor mounts?

Thanks
Matt

Are you inquiring about what mount to buy or if you need to move the mounting stubs that come off the frame? The mounting stubs should work on any Mopar V8. Depending upon which tranny you use, you might have to use the tranny crossmember from the donor vehicle though.

Jeff,
I wanted to know if there is a V8 that will go in without moving the mounts as they are now.

Thanks

The riveted frame brackets will work with most small
and big block MoPar engines. the engine brackets will
need to be changed. What transmission do you have?
Let us know and we'll tell you what will and will not
work. You'll have other small issues like radiator,
exhaust, etc. to contend with... no big deal though.

I don't know too much about these trucks yet. I've had it for about three years and it's been garaged and I just started working on it. All I know is that it's a three speed. Are there any identification numbers and if so, where would I find them.

Thanks for the help.

Transmission ID should be on the build placard on the driver side (back wall of the door opening). I'm a couple hours south of you. If you need to do a hands on comparison of /6 vs 318, come on down. My 69 has a 318/727 combo. And I can likely hook you up with a local source for Sweptline bits and pieces.

Navyguy huh? You must be fleet out of homeport Everett. My younger brother was an SH3 on the Lincoln. I'm an ex-SeaBee.

Shoot me an e-mail if you need some truck parts, my local salvage yard tends to get in Sweptlines pretty frequently.

Thanks for all the help. WD, it just so happens I am on the Lincoln. I will definitely be emailing you for some questions and possibly some parts. And Seabee, I love sea stories, but some of them are classified when you are married. :shame

Three speed manual tranny?.... If so, its probably
an A745 in which case the tranny & bell will work
with your small block V8.... you will need a fly-
wheel and the clutch pressure plate/disc & throw-
out bearing.
