Sealing that secret cavity behind the door pillar.
Sealing that secret cavity behind the door pillar.
While blowing 42 years of dirt out of the rockers dust was blowing inside the cab - the culprit is the little area behind the door pillar on the floor. The factory mastic had pulled away from the sheet metal and had a gap of about 1/4 inch allowing the outside to come inside. The fix is 1) -clean area of loose debris . 2)- putty knife in some "Henry" 208 wet patch roof cement. Careful as this stuff is messy. 3)- Since this stuff stays gooey a bit more than i care for in a mastic i spray Rustoleum undercoat directly over the Henry and in a few days it hardens just enough to feel like the factory. No more dust or moisture coming in from that zone - yea

Thanks for posting. I was looking at mine when I redid the corner and was wondering what to do about it.

I just used really thick seam sealer that comes in a can.
I applied it to the gap both inside and underneath the cab. It took a couple applications to build it up and get just right.
Its an automotive product, its cheap enough, and is just about intended for that purpose. Can't go wrong.

Open either door and look behind the door post at the rear of the cab- that little open area beside the fuel tank where we all put paper towels, extra oil filters, wads of cash , etc. Along the bottom of that area is where the factory gooped it up with some sort of mastic sealant. Hope that helpsBillyBones wrote:It'd be cool to see it does anyone have pic's I'm having a hard time picturing it.

I've thought about using some spray foam in some of these places. I think most of the spray foam doesn't hold water. It would help with sound deadening and would seal things up (Mike Holmes style).
