engine color for 63 413

Post by Goldie »

I am trying to duplicate the "turquise"? color of my original engine in my 63 D100. The eng probably came off the Imperial line and was fitted to my truck. the problem is the color. I bough what is supposed to be right, but when I used it it looked too blue when compared to the greener pieces that hadn't been painted yet. Does anyone have the source for the greener paint in an aresol?.....Goldie

was that the Mopar Prefomace paint that you used?
I used it on my intake that I installed on my 65
Bel 2d HT before, rest of the engine was the org
paint, was darn close....if anything a little light
in shade and had no look of blue at all.
I know of no other color that is close to that shade.

The paint on the engine will lighten over time, so the fresh paint will appear mis-matched for a while. Drive it for a couple hundred miles or so and it'll look more blended together.

If you can get it, I would recommend using VHT brand paint. They are usually RIGHT ON!

my paint is out in the shop. I should have looked at the can before it snowed me in. Yes, I am getting snowed on right now. 34 and windy. Snow rain mix. Nice huh. The color I sprayed is a long way from the original color and I bought it at the Chrysler swap meet just a few weeks ago. If it wern't so far to the shop or I wasn't such a puss, I'd go read the can, but things being as they are, it'll have to wait until tomorrow. I'm having the eng rebuilt so driving it a while won't help. the whole thing is going to be the same color. Just want to get as close as posible. Thanks for your help guys...Goldie

I've had good luck with VHT red or turquoise. Their Hemi orange came out brown though. The best stuff I've used on engines was Autozone Chevy-red orange. Perfect color match. Their Chrysler colors are a bit bright though.

finally made it to the shop. The color I'm using is Mopar performance engine enamel, Chrysler turquoise P4120752. and I got to tell you if this is right then there has been some serious fading on my original parts. I compared this color, sprayed on a clean part, to residual color on the eng and it ain't close. way too blue, campared to areas that were relativly protected from eng heat, grease, etc. I'd like to get it right.....Goldie

goldie - that is the later 66ish and up B and RB engine paint. i have not been able to find the proper greenish paint they used. maybe one of my chrysler 300 buds will know.

BTW - the 413 from your truck is probably sourced from an industrial engine line or the police area and not from an imperial - in my opinion...

P4120752 MP Chrysler Turquoise is pretty much a dead
on match for VHT's version.

Ben, I will go with you're opinion on these old boys anytime. Anyone know if the older color is available? Maybe a marine eng. color? ...Goldie

here's some links to the proper color -

62 Polara 413 - http://www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com/sprankle62.html

and the WPC 426 CSS/HPP - http://cssregistry.com/css/wpc.html

both are unrestored and have a greenish tint.

John - can you spray a piece of tin and mail it to Dan and another piece to me for refrence?

Ben. I scored a set of the full wheel covers like the ones on your website home page red 64. Are they OK for mine? I really like them a lot but I would hate for them to be wrong after going thru so much trouble to restore the truck correctly....Dan

are they from a 55 plymouth? if so they are probably correct since that is what mine had on it from the factory but i have also seen dog dish caps on them that were either chrome or painted - the only way to know for sure is ask the orginal owner like Terry Winkler has done or look for a build sheet. can you post a pic of what they look like?

Ben,
I can spray some tin with MoPar Performance
turquoise. I don't have any more VHT. Let me
know if you want the MP turquoise and I'll
take care of it for you guys. E-mail me at home.
