i need grille swap info

Post by hotrodsbyray »

:thinking
i like the "pie plate" 2 headlight grilles of 66 and 67. will this grille fit or replace those of say 64 and 65, or 68-71? i am new to these trucks and have no idea which fits and how easily.

i know you can cut and drill and make about any grille fit any vehicle, but i was looking for more of a bolt on type application or swap with minimal hassle - however the ole sawzall is on standby.

thanks

to put a pie plate on a pre 65 you need the proper rad support, the 4 headlight trucks are different. on the 68 and up, i think the rad support will work, but the hoods wont line up right. on the pie plate the outer corners of the hood drops down around the headlight rings, on the 68 and up they are flat across the bottom. it will still fit and work, just wont look proper :Thumbsup

I tried pie plate onto 69 at the junkyard. I have a 69, wanted the 65.5-67 grille, but decided try before I buy. Good thing, the pie plate grill on a straight hood truck looks goofy.

WD, did all the holes and such line up on the rad support?? i agree the straight hood dont look right on pie plates, you definatly need the proper hood :Thumbsup

I don't know. The grille was sitting there loose, I just wedged it in place on the 69 lower valance, stepped back, saw how nasty it looked, and walked away. Didn't bother to check the mounting points to see how they lined up. If they don't match, that's what drills are for, make it fit.

see them from time to time on ebay and here in the for sale section. what part of the country are you in?? got a few here in town that could be bought, ones short bed sweot side, the other uteiline. first is a 67, second is a 68. havent looked into either of them, no for sale signs, but you know how that goes, sometimes all you got to do is ask, but i have been too broke to ask!! :banghead
