Waterpumps...

Post by Guest »

My truck was sold to me and is registered as a 69. No 9s in the serial number though. Second number plate is missing, if it would have helped.

I read in an earlier post that 68 and older the water pump to radiator spout is on the driver side. 69 and up on the passenger side.

My truck has the outlet of the pump and the radiator on the driver side. Does that mean for a higher flow or replacement stock pump I need to order a 67/68? Or even a poly pump? I know the block is an LA318, it has the 5 bolt valve covers. The parts catalogs all show 68-70 as the same, was that a car thing that the trucks were excluded from?

My pump is starting to get noisy, figure it's only a matter of time before I need a new one. Want to change it before it goes terminal.

I belive it is a after 69 change, but could of happened
mid year also,,,,,just depend on how many parts had to be used up....
The stock poly pump is the same one used on the early LA engines, all have the driver side pickup for the pump.

Frame number should match the tag on door post.
Frame number is stamped on frame near the pass side
front spring shackel.
