I'm getting ready to finish my interior basic clean-out. I've essentially vacuumed out about 20lbs. of dirt and debris and wiped down the metal. I want to primer the metal so it won't rust and so that it is a nice uniform color. I don't have any plans to install any carpet or anything as of yet and I am not planning on doing that for at least another year or so.
What have you all used to primer, or should I just pick up a generic brand of whatever and go with that. I figure since I will eventually send the cab to be blasted, it doesn't need to be thick or expensive.
What to use for Primer

Are you storing it inside or outside?1965D100 wrote:I figure since I will eventually send the cab to be blasted, it doesn't need to be thick or expensive.
Outside, got rustolium, until it get sand blasted.
Inside i would go cheap if your getting it blasted in the next three months, if not after three months spray it again. Of just get rustolium and forget about it until you get it blasted

Re: What to use for Primer
If you know you are going to blast it, and just want to keep the rust at bay temporarily,
get a $6 quart can of Rustoleam and brush it on and be done. Primer is only good for
using as a base for paint. It will draw moisture much quicker than even the cheapest
Walmart rattle can paint. You could seal the primer with a sealer, or even use an epoxy
primer, but that would all be wasted when blasted. The brush will allow you to work the
paint into the cracks and such much better than a spray.

You can use epoxy primer, available at auto paint stores. Mix with hardener and apply with a small tight weave roller. The roller is available at Home Depot, and you can use a small brush for the corners. Epoxy primer is way better than rattle can lacquer.

I agree with this. This would be the cheapest and best. These projects have a way of taking a lot longer than planned at first. Rustoleum won't need a sealer and will last as long as you need it to. If you clean the floor well the Rustoleum can even be a final coat in case you change your mind about having it blasted.nfury8 wrote:If you know you are going to blast it, and just want to keep the rust at bay temporarily,
