A real head scratcher!

Post by nlmoss »

I've got a 1966 Dodge 3/4 ton longbed that's in great shape on the outside...but there are problems! floorboards are rotted through along the door and up by the toe board, fuel gauge doesn't work, wirings hacked,(everything works, headlights, tailights etc.) transmission leaks and so on! all fixable but is it worth it? today i found a 1966 1/2 ton longbed, big window cab,318 poly w/ a 3 on the tree, pretty much what i got but in better shape mechanicly and no rusty floorboard.d.s doors dented along with the bed and the hoods jacked up.what i'm getting at is,should i take a really nice 3/4 ton and gut it for the 1/2 ton to make one nice truck? I'm thinking financally i'll save money but the 3/4 tons really nice.anywhoo what woul'd you guys do?

If the white truck pictured is what you
currently own, you might give thought
to:
1)Getting some floorboard sections welded in
2)Putting an ad in the Parts Wanted section
for a complete wiring harness
3)Fixing the leak in the tranny

All these combined would probably add up
to be much less than getting dents ironed
out and putting a nice paint job on the
1/2 ton truck. :idea :2cents

I plan on removing the doors, hood, and the bed off the white one being all of that is straight and making the green one a solid, straight truck.

Are those chrome bumpers rare or what? I thought the bumper on the green one was in better shape and i would chrome it to match the grille on the white one. the rear is the big heavy duty bumper stamped w/ the dealer that sold the truck

I really like the way that white one looks. I think you're on the right track if you can buy the 1/2 ton cheap enough. You could take off the cab and box and prepaint them then install them on the 200. Double check the 100's wiring though to see if it's brittle or not. You might even be able to sell parts after it's all over or even throw the 100 back together with the bad parts and sell it.

How much will they give you for it? I'll match their offer, plus another $50 in cash next weekend.
