1966 camper special

Post by NHnelly »

So I just inherited and old 66 camper special that has been off the road for 20+ yrs. Don’t know it’s history other than originally came from CA. The interior has bucket seats with a center console between them. Was this a factory option or were these installed from another type of vehicle? It’s an automatic with the shift handle on the dash.

I don't believe a center console was ever a factory option. All the factory bucket seats I've seen had a flip down buddy seat in the middle.

Picture would help. Bucket seats with a centre lift up padded cover with storage and a fold forward back rest were indeed an option. Called the Buddy Seat by most.

If its truly a "console" and not a padded buddy seat, it might be a CSS pkg. Need a pic to determine the specifics.

Here is the factory bucket seat option, from the Sweptline Owners Group, on Facebook:

That is only for 68-71. The earlier buckets and console were different.

Bill, was that setup used in anything other than the CSS pkg?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm pretty sure I've seen a stripe delete CSS truck, so they would probably build whatever you wanted as a special order.
