'68-'70 grill/core support into a '61-'64...?

Post by Laredo »

I have a line on a clean '63 locally.
Not fond of the quad lights/grill look.
I know I need to swap the core support, and I have searched the site for swaps, seeing some folks swapping from the late to the older grill.
But I want to do the opposite - put the later '68-'70 into the older '61-'64 body.
Will the hood work for this swap...?

The 2 headlight core supp is the same mid yr 65 thru 71. Hood latches changed several times over the yrs and holes may need to be drilled in the support for the correct latch strike, depending on the hood used. Otherwise, the swap is run of the mill easy.

Also, the early hood is made to rise up over the grill at the headlights, so switching to a 68 and later grill will leave a big gap between the lights and the hood.

Got it, thx! So I need the grill, rad core support, AND the hood from the 68-70.

Jeez... I think I have everything you need. :pale

I have a '68 that I'm converting to look like a '64 (my Dad had a 1964 Dodge when he owned a Western Auto, so I'm building a tribute truck.) I already have two of the earlier core supports, but the '68 core support is still in my truck. And it is solid. I have both the 1970 style hood and a 1968 style 'no buck tooth' hood that I just finished repairing. I even have a very straight 1968 grille and the two round headlight covers...

Sadly, I'm in Idaho. That's an expensive ship.
