Heater ID

Post by 67step100 »

Is this heater correct for a late '60's d100? And if so can someone identify which model it is. The parts book shows many different models but none seem to look like mine. I'm trying to figure out what is missing as a buffer because the heater makes a lot of noise banging against the firewall when I go over a bump. Thanks.

Thanks guys. Good to know. It does work however, lots of heat coming out of the vents. Want to take it apart, clean and reinstall with some sort of buffer against the firewall.

Out of curiosity, which model would have come with a '67 D100?

A Model 86.

If I were you and considering all the other work you've done, I'd get the correct heater. A couple of sweptline suppliers offer rebuild kits for them.

Thanks. It sounds like I need the entire heater. I'll refurbish the one I have for now until such time I can source a correct one.

It is a Canadian Dodge (built in Windsor) and the heater does throw a lot of heat.

to me looks like a dealer or factory install. maybe google for pics of other Canadian dodges and fargo interior pics. the Canadian stuff have quite a few differences over they years in cars and trucks.

Is this heater correct for a late '60's d100?

It is identical to what is in my 67 Fargo.

And if so can someone identify which model it is.

Sorry, I do not know.

Mopar, thanks for responding. I was hoping someone else with a Canadian truck would reply. So it looks like my heater is original to the truck, or was dealer installed.

I didn't see anything like that in the parts manual---which includes the Canadian trucks. I'm thinking a heater was an option back then and a truck did not come with one unless ordered as such. I'm wondering if a dealer(s) decided to forego a factory heater and install an aftermarket? You would think ti wouldn't be a "floppy" mount, as described by the OP, if factory installed.

My truck originally came from Alberta so it's possible the Fargo/Dodge dealers out west had a source for heaters because you would really need one. I can't see a farmer buying a truck without a heater. Mine may rattle because it is not properly secured to the firewall or perhaps is missing a gasket between the two metal surfaces. Regardless, it most definitely works. I hope to take it off this winter and see why it rattles and fix it so it doesn't.

easy to make an insulator for between firewall and heater out of innertube. My 61 D300 was order with no heater. then someone added on at some point.

I bet its standard Fargo equipment seeing as we Fargo's all have them. Just like all Canadian vehicles come with block heaters standard for however many decades. They made a lot of changes on the fly during production in the Windsor plant as my Dad who worked there at the time tells me. I'll ask him over the holidays about the heaters but I doubt he'll remember. Fargo's have a few differences maybe we found another one? I'm curious if it uses the same heater core. Kaegi had a good suggestion for a fix. There's another Fargo member Gyman I think? he knows quite a bit about Fargo's, I hope he weighs in.
