Utiline beds, difference between a dually truck & others or?

Post by sixpak340 »

1970 D300 in my case.

And would it be a 8 footer or a 9 footer?

Thanks!

You'd need a 9' Utiline box if your frame is original and hasn't
been lengthened/shortened. There are factory DRW Utiline fenders
but they're very very difficult to find..... as are the 9' boxes themselves.
Happy hunting. :Thumbsup

I can't say about the boxes but the fenders themselves are considerably different. The dually fender is almost a perfect semi-circle.

The red one in the photo is the look I like.

I had also considered possibly making one from scratch, so I did some internet exploring.

This outfit can supply custom length bedsides & more for custom builds;

Thanks guys!

What years from any donor will fit a '70?

Still hoping to discover if the bed itself is the same other than the fenders?

Definitely late 65 thru 71. Early may fit but I'm not certain. I know some wheelbase wonkiness occurred pertaining to 100/200 during the mid-65 switch that necessitated the wheel well opening to be moved. I can't say if it effected 300 series.

Thanks Bucky.

Were any of the 100 / 200 series offered with the 9" long Utiline bed or is that 300 only?

Awesome, thanks again.

Will the tailgates interchange from the shorter beds?

Yes. There are two types....
Early, which were used from '61-'69['?]. These had the stamped D O D G E
letters.
Late, ['70-'71] which had no stamped letters.

Both styles will interchange. :study Utiline gates continued
to be used into the LifeStyle era pickups as well.

Headboards, tailgates, fenders and crossmembers all interchange. Only the sides are different.

I read that Canadian trucks could be stamped either FARGO or DODGE. US trucks were only ever stamped DODGE. My Canadian truck is stamped DODGE.

Because Canada had FARGO trucks up to 1972.
My truck is younger than me.
