What are These Tags

Post by 67step100 »

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this. When I purchased my '67 D100 it came with a plastic bag in the glove box that had these two tags in it. Does anyone know what they are for and what the numbers mean? One tag reads D40-1278 and th other reads D70-84.
Thanks.

They are used to track parts during assembly at the factory. Absolutely irrelevant and meaningless to the finished product.

Thanks, good to know. I'm guessing there were no build sheets for these trucks? Just curious if my truck has its original colour or if it was repainted. I'm guessing it's Dodge truck red right now. It was repainted when it was restored about 15 years ago and I can't find any place where it is not red.

Brikar, what number is on your tag?

They exist. Some have found them, usually in the bottom or back of the seat.

The other one goes on the firewall of the cab.

I'm guessing the D70 tag went on the box and the D40 tag went on the cab. I found this which shows the D70 body symbol for a short box Utiline, giving the box dimensions.

I've seen stamped numbers on the frame that had nothing to do with the VIN. Might these correspond with the type of bed anticipated and therefore the tag in much the same way "matching numbers" work with engines?
