D300 cab on a w100

Post by marklein »

Can't really find a good answer, how much work is it to use a 300 cab on a 100? I found a really nice 300 cab and need one for a 65 project.

The best guy to ask is PwrWgnDrvr. To me, it would be virtually tragic to modify decent 300 parts to make a 100. I'm sure you can do a trade for the fenders, front panel, and running boards if it's that good. They don't weigh much and would pack on a pallet OK. The 300 body is a better looking truck IMO. Allows bigger tires too unless I'm mistaken.

Ben Simons did all the work to alter a 300 cab for his D100 HPP restoration. The main area is the floor on the driver side next to the hump and up to the steering column area. Also need a tunnel cover and filler piece welded in for the back half of the hump. Be aware there are significant differences between yrs; 3-4 changes from 61-71.

Fenders are ok, front panel and grill are bad, no running boards, but the cab is decent. Hood most likely usable too. No box but the hoist is there. I need a cab for a 65 W100 that I have, not too many nice cabs available around here.

What yr is the cab? If 69 or newer, use on a 65 is a major problem

Good, no issues then with doors, wiring, master cyls, etc.
If you're good with a MIG and have usuable patch panels from the existing cab, or elsewhere, the conversion is manageable. Doors, fenders, steps, core support, hood, etc are all interchangeable between all models. Be prepared for huge effort getting everything apart, especially the step brackets. Many bolts are extremely rusted in place and many have horrible access.
