Sweptline bed mounts
I was quite surprised to find wood as a mount or insulater. I need replacement. Does anyone make a poly mount better than wood. What options are there.

Re: Sweptline bed mounts
I have not seen any poly mounts. In the past I have bought a piece of dried oak (from a hardwood store) and remade the factory wood mounts.

I’m still learning the area. I have been there recently in between the storms. Plan to go more.

Re: Sweptline bed mounts
I think they are white oak. very durable and rot resistant. More so than red oak.

Re: Sweptline bed mounts
I used a piece of wood from a OAK Skid/pallet.
Re: Sweptline bed mounts
the oak does last many decades. all the big 3 used it probably up into to 70s or 80s.

Re: Sweptline bed mounts
Jim100 is correct about the superior rot resistance of white oak compared to red oak. Paint if first and you'll be fine.

Soak any wood in Smiths Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer and it will NEVER rot!
Re: Sweptline bed mounts
is that something that absorbs into the wood? or does it dry like clear varnish? asking because it sounds like a possible candidate for utiline bed board treatment.PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 9:55 amSoak any wood in Smiths Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer and it will NEVER rot!

Nobody was following me with a forklift ... my dad had picked up a pallet or two for a wood project he was working on. I even had him cut the blocks for me! SEE? I still have all 10 fingers to prove it

Re: Sweptline bed mounts
2 part material, soaks into the wood then hardens, clean up with xylene, expensive, about $200/gal. Ive used many gallons in many different applications.Kaegi wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 10:27 amis that something that absorbs into the wood? or does it dry like clear varnish? asking because it sounds like a possible candidate for utiline bed board treatment.PwrWgnDrvr wrote: ↑Mon Apr 08, 2019 9:55 amSoak any wood in Smiths Clear Penetrating Epoxy Sealer and it will NEVER rot!

Re: Sweptline bed mounts
I went around the use of wood when replacing my bed mounts and used polyethylene. Any plastic supply shop has it as well as blocks of PVC, PC and ABS any of which work fine in this application.

I used white oak stair hand rail scrap material from a home I'm building. Gave the spec's to my cabinet guy and forgot to give him an amount. Came back and he had cut about twenty of them.
