Bed side

On my truck (66- long bed) the passenger side below the sweep is a dented, perforated, rusty mess. Above the sweptline it is perfect. I came across another bed side recently that is a rusted pitted through worthless mess above the sweep but like new below. Go figure. Is it insane to consider carefully cutting right along the entire length of the point of the sweep and then tacking the two halves together? By chance they are both turquoise as well.
Thanks, jim

That is not an insane idea as MOST "rust repair panels" are similar to what you want to do. Do you have moldings you could "hide" the seam under?? That would be the BEST place to make your repair. Of course, you would still have to do some minor body work on the ends.
