Radiator support color

Post by pwadventurer »

Is the radiator support flat black front and back above lower area or can it be body color? I am going with B-5 blue body color.

My 68 was black in the front where you can see through the grille, and COLOR of the body on the back side (engine compartment). However, when I repainted my truck, I FORGOT that the backside was COLOR and painted the whole thing black. Oh well... still looks good and nobody has ever said anything.

Thanks Jim, I've seen a few trucks full body color and it looks good. I wasn't sure if it was an option or standard. The 70 has the grill insert, not sure how much will be visible. I'll have to assemble an see.

I just read your original post again and seen that you mention flat black. I would say the support should be more of a Semi-Gloss black. The paint on mine was so faded. I like the look of black behind the grille.

The TWO parts trucks I had which were BOTH 1970 trucks had the BLACK on the front side The Body COLOR of my YELLOW 1970 D-100 was painted on the engine compartment side.

I cannot positively confirm the color of the engine compartment side on the D-200 1970.

Mine is black on grill side and body color on engine side. Chrysler cars were the same way. The black makes the grille color pop. Body color behind the grille looks out of place and takes away from the grille.

Thanks guys, I'm going with the semi gloss black BC/CC in the grill area and body colors for the inside and lower section.

And my 66 that has a 68 rad support on it is black on the backside. Came from a US built truck. Kept it that way 34 years ago.

Yes, that's a nice looking truck. I didn't know if the 68 rad support you put on the 66 was red to begin with. Interesting some were black on the engine side and some body color.

Went out and looked at some of my parts trucks in back field.
66Dodge D100 appears to be mostly black on back side. Really hard to be sure due to surface rust.
66 Fargo w 200 also appears mostly black on back side.
68 Fargo D100. Black on back side. Some body colour over spray on it.
64 Dodge D100 Black on backside with repaint over spray.
Did not check my 70 Fargo D500.

If they were sprayed black over body colour the surfaces have deteriorated just badly enough to not be positive on original colour. :thinking :thinking

So what's wrong with setting beneath a single pull string incandescent light bulb writing angry letters?

Yes, bought new in California then it came to Washington in the mid 70's.

I finished the rad support today. this was my first go with spray gun using all components. I used BC/CC blue and single stage hot rod gloss black on front side and all blue engine side. http://i1356.photobucket.com/albums/q73 ... 6teizm.jpg[/img]=145886949&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=1
