hood hinges

Post by rickharrold »

Anybody have any luck rebuilding hood hinges so hood will set down in back without using a stack of shims?

Guess you are elected to be the 1st to try. Movement appears to be in the riveted hinge pins wallowing out. You can see the movement when you slowly move the hood in the up position. Guess you could drill out and use a larger pins.Same theory as the door hinge pins. :thinking

come up with a fix and tell us. I have 1.25 inches worth of shims to bring the back of hood down, no lie. Ive tried EVERYTHING and this is the only thing that works. Either my hood is bent, or hinges are bent or worn.

Appears the rivets get wallowed out over time. If you open the hood and move it up and down, you can see the movement in the rivets. Wonder if you could remove the rivets and replace with larger bolt to take out the slack. :thinking

Did you ever put this idea to the test? Results?
Would love to know in order to get my hood to drop down to the right level.

Thanks
