Bed options/opinions wanted please.

Post by Swexas »

I've got a '66 D100 short bed that I am gonna want to do something to fix the bed. It is rusted through completely in a couple of places and very thin in others in the floor area. I've seen a complete weld in sheet replacement that I can purchase but don't know if I want to go that route. I was thinking of maybe cutting It out and wondered if anyone had installed a wooden floor in theirs or not? Is there any reproduction beds being produced by anyone to just throw that on there? Anyone wanting to sell a stepside bed? Current one is the short, regular bed. If I had my wish, then I would have a stepside bed on there but those are probably not easy to find. Any other suggestions or comments on the dilemma?

Welcome to the site! :welcome :usa Actually, the short Utiline box
is probably the easiest 6' box to come by. It is the easiest Utiline
box to locate as well. You're in the land of plentiful Sweptlines down
in the southwest.... take a look in some bone yards nearby. :idea :2cents
The short Utiline box was around into the Lifestyle Era trucks until
the early 80s. :Thumbsup

Short Utiline ran unchanged from 1956-1985. If you can't find a used bed, a new one can be sourced online as repair panels/fenders/tailgates. Not cheap if done that way.
If I didn't build it, it ain't mine.

Yea I hope not to have to do it that way so it's good to know that they did run til '85. I just need to hit the junk yards near and far to see what they've got.
