Dude steering wheel question

Post by Creepjohnny »

So I noticed trucks have 2 styles of wheels. One has a small horn button in the center. The other has the horn button that has arms more than halfway up the wheel. Like a tri bar. We're these style wheels on certain makes or models? Like the dude or d100s? And we're all wheels 17"? Or did power steering trucks come with 15"? Couldn't find any info anywhere other than pictures with no details.
Thanks in advance!

Do you mean this wheel? As far as I know, white wheels came on 65-68 D series with the Custom package or higher. Black wheels that were basically the same, except without the chrome horn ring, were standard 61-68. Three-spoke black wheels were standard on W series. 69 and on, the standard wheel in all trucks was a three-spoke black wheel, but a different one than before. This wheel can be identified by the "Dodge Division" stamped around the horn button. Dude trucks and/or trucks with power steering were no different. I can post more pictures and take measurements if it would help.

Sorry I wasn't more specific. I was mainly asking about the 70-71 steering wheels for d100/200 and dudes. If they had specific wheels or was one more top of the line that the other? Attaching 2 pics of the ones I'm asking about.

Every original truck 69-71 that I've seen has used a 17-in. black plastic wheel that looks like this one:

That is in a 71 D200 Camper Special, has factory power steering.
I have a 69 W200 and a 70 D300, both have the same wheel. I have seen Dude trucks with the same wheel before, but I can't prove they were originally that way. The only time I've seen the second wheel you posted was in a motorhome.

My 69 has a green steering wheel to go with the factory dark green pearlescent dash paint.

Friend Mike's 70 short wide D100 had a blue wheel.

My M400 has a white and chrome wheel that I can't stand.
If I didn't build it, it ain't mine.

The wheels are all the same 69-71. The fancier center button for the horn is on Adventurers and maybe others such as Custom models.
