Short box from long box

Post by marklein »

Has anyone ever tried shortening a long box, turning it into a short box? I've done some measuring, and removing exactly 20 inches from a long box will make the correct length shorty. 15 or 16 from the front and 5 or 4 from the back. It is a lot of work, but I a have a longbox that the floor is wasted in anyway. If I do my measurements correct, and make an inner framework, the only way you should be able to tell is there will be a post hole above the wheel well. The short boxes of either ute or reg box are veŕy scarce in my area, so I am going to try making one. Have welder, will travel.

I'm not sure how much lower the "Swept" body line is when you're
14" back from the head of the box? :thinking

From my measurements, about 1/8". Very little, I think I can hide that.

this question gets asked all of the time. It has been done and its a lot of work to do it right but If you cant find a short bed cutting down a long bed is about all you can do.
