I have a 70-71 SWB on a 67.5-68 W200 Crew Cab, sans bumper.
What model years am I limited to for finding a bumper that would fit this bed?
Here is a pic of my truck for reference. I will most likely need some frame modifications before installing the bumper, as it looks like it was shortened during its previous life as a fire dept vehicle.
Thanks in advance!
Jim

Re: Rear Bumper
Options in order in ascending order of price/availability.....
1)Find a nice used Sweptline era step bumper. An old
diamond plate after market bumper can probably be found
in a bone yard near you.
2)Look for a factory light duty rear bumper and
corresponding brackets. The '61-'68 bumpers were
the same, although the brackets changed slightly
in mid '65. These bumpers are tough to locate and
when they turn up.... they fetch a pretty decent $$
3)A '69-'71 factory light duty bumper would work too.
A bit more difficult and probably a bit more pricey
than option #2 though.
Note:
You can also look into non Sweptline options too... such
as a '72-'93 factory Dodge rear bumper... '70s vintage
Ford light duty rear bumper ..... J.C. Whitney
diamond plate step bumper..... etc., etc..

Re: Rear Bumper
Thanks for the info John.
I have plans to start visiting the local boneyards, but the population of sweptline era donors in my neck of the woods will most likely be very low.
But who doesn't love a good challenge...

Re: Rear Bumper
The '72 - '93 bumpers will work, as stated. I have a mid-'80s chrome step bumper on one of my '68s, and it fits like it was made for the truck. The frame widths are the same from 1961 through the 1993 model years.
As an add-on, if you are looking for a receiver hitch for your Swepty, grab one off a '72 - '93 Dodge, it fits like a glove. Again, same frame widths allow this.
