New Weather Strip makes door bulge 1970 D100

Post by rmansberger »

Hi, I ordered all new weather stripping for each of my doors, both vent windows, and everything else that could be replaced from Steele Rubber Products for my 1970 D100.

When we installed the weather stripping it is so dense that it doesn't compress enough to let the door gap fit. There is a bulge in the upper front vent window section. The weather stripping has been on there for about 2 weeks so time has not helped so far.

My next move unless someone can advise me different is to take the weather stripping off and feather down that area so the door gap goes back to normal.

If you have ran into this or have any ideas, please let me know.

Thanks.

I had the same thing happen to my doors when I replaced the weather-stripping. So I removed it from one side of the truck. aligned the door and then replaced it. But this time I got the weather-stripping from Roberts and it was smaller and took care of my problem.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago using the weatherstrip from Restoration Specialities & Supply in Penna. The fit was ok, no problems

So I have checked all the seals and they are installed correctly. The Steele door gasket product has been on for 3 weeks now and it has not compressed and the wind noise is the worse thing. So I am going to take a hit and pull out the Steele product.

Both Restoration Specialties and Roberts Motor Parts were mentioned as good already tested products. I have worked with Restoration Specialties and their products have been fine. I was not aware of Robert's Motor Parts but now that I am I want to make the best choice for my second set of door gaskets.

Does anyone have any comments either way or any other vendors that you have installed that gave your a perfect seal, no wind noise, and no door bulge?

Thank you for your help.

LC from PA the problem with the door seal is the upper edge at vent is narrow so the round weather stripping won,t compress I had this problem on my 70 I cut the outter edge off and just left the glued on part that runs down the vent window runangle then I went to Restorastion Specialites which is in my home town he use my truck to make up pattern to fit door it is narrow on vent area and has 45 angle cut to get around tothe top of the door like the factory rubber then rest off moulding fits nicily very little wind and no water LC :study :salut

Hi to LC, just a clarification. It sounds like Restoration Specialties improved their door weather stripping after fitting your truck, is that correct? So if that is true, their product should fit my 1970 truck the best.

I will wait for your reply before I place my order.

Thank you for you help.

Are you sure you have the strip positioned correctly? The small part of the v groove should be against the door skin and the larger part facing the cab. Just say'in.

Hi, I doubled check and the small V is against the door. I doubled checked my order and they apparently sent the right part. This is always a possibility that it was mislabeled. I don't know what to do about that, but at this point it is not working so I guess I will try the restoration specialties product and hope for a better result.

Thank you for your picture and input, they were very helpful to double check.

Take care.
