POR 15

Post by Jhollett »

Has anyone here used POR 15 to paint the chassis? Did you use the metal prep or just the paint?

I painted my whole chassis with it. I only used the metal prep on the places that I had new bare metal. For the old portions I used a metal bristle brush to clean it up then an spray degreaser/paint prep.

Por15 likes some texture to stick to. Be sure to use the metal prep where it's bare.

Eight years ago, or so, I POR-15ed the inside of my Ducati Monster tank--which was weeping at the spot-welded hinge/pivot. Zero problems since.

:clap

I know you didn't ask, but POR-15's competitors do not have the same reputation...

Kreem is one of POR-15's competitors that a lot of motorcycle people have had problems with. POR-15 actually makes a product to remove failed sealers.

I've heard good things about Rust Bullet as well, from people that I know who've used it (they have a dealer right in Lewiston, which is close to where I live & work)

But, I've always had really good luck with the Rustoleum products. I actually have the bed off of my '84 right now and painted it with Rustoleum rusty metal primer and then the flat black inhibitor. I've used it on vehicles before and it's always held up very well for me. And it costs a heck of a lot less than POR-15 or Rust Bullet.
