adventurer vinyl top?

Post by fireguyfire »

Brian here on sweptline was kind enough to email me some original brochures regarding 69 adventurer trucks which is very helpful in restoring my 69. In the ad there is a blue truck with what appears to be a black vinyl top on the cab; does anyone know if this was an option on 69 adventurers, or 69 d100's in general?
My truck is factory white with a black interior, so pretty boring on the outside, but I got thinking that a black top on a white truck with the black interior might look really good!
Opinions?

Never saw one with real vinyl. Think it was just painted on to appear like vinyl.

I had a 68 years ago with the painted vinyl fake top.
My truck is younger than me.

Was it a textured paint, or smoothe flat black to simulate vinyl?

IT is a textured paint. Similar to the "Rock Guard" used on the bottoms of rocker panels to protect the paint from chipping. My 68 had a small dent in the roof and after I repaired it, I had to find something to match the original "Vinyl" top. I can't remember which brand I used, but I used something similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Gravel-Approved-R ... B002HP50GU

Of course there are different brands some cheaper, some more money.... just try and do a Google search about them.

That is more money.... :thinking where the "rock guard" does the same thing CHEAPER  . The roof "Should" be a satin color... not a shiny black or white. :salut

These may be of some help. I scanned all my 1969 brochures, and made them available for members to download:
