New floor mat where to trim?
The original mat was pretty much destroyed so I couldn't really tell how far to the edge it went. I see a photo on Jim's CD that shows the mat he bought. I bought this new mat and it has full coverage, not just the front like the OEM. I decided to insulate and cover the entire cab floor. Can anyone tell me where to trim the mat? Does it go to the edge of the floor pan where it meets the step? Or does it go to the edge of the step lip like in Jim's photo? Does this make sense what I'm asking?

I was able to pull my old one up without removing the chrome step plate trim, so I would say just under that.

Re: New floor mat where to trim?
I looked at my pics again to refresh my memory about the mat. I DID NOT trim mine at the edges. That fit that way when I FIRST put it in. My '68 has a factory "lip" where the step is that the map would go UNDER. NOTE in the picture that my mat is sitting on TOP of the "lip". I DO NOT have the carpet trim that other trucks had which I think was on the later 70-71 years? NOTE the way the mat fits at the kick panel. Again... I did NOT trim this. Also, my truck mat was MISSING when I got my truck.

My 68 had the original mat and it went under the lip.

Yes, mine too is under that lip NOW after I finished. However, in the picture it is sitting on top of it. That photo was taken just for a "fit" to see how good that mat was.soopernaut wrote:My 68 had the original mat and it went under the lip.

Re: New floor mat where to trim?
OK to clarify...it goes under the lip. Well that's a problem because I didn't know there was a lip since my floor pans were gone. I just welded through the lip and smoothed it out. I'm thinking about buying or making a trim piece. I may just trim down the edge of the step so you still see the color like in the picture Jim posted. Any other ideas?

Yeah, you will need to make something to hold down the mat. Now I understand why you were confused because your floor was "that bad". Anyway, see the pics I just took today. One shows the mat "normally" and the other shows me pulling it out from under the lip. This is about 1/4 - 3/8 inch high. I hope these pics help you out!
