original paint code location

i'm trying to figure out what color my ol truck was to begin with.. it's a well worn southern colorado ranch truck.. it looks like it was maybe a grey or light brown.. looking at the lists on sweptlineparts.. thinking maybe fawn beige or mustang gray.. maybe even that golden tan poly color.. ha..

anyways.. is there marked paint code somewhere on the truck..?

Just to say, there is NO paint code on the Dodge Sweptline trucks. Not even that tiny little metal tag that is nailed to the cowl/firewall area. You just have to 'match' it up with a paint chip for the year for your truck. You would need to let us know what year it is, because sometimes they would say (for example) Blue in 1965 and then use the word Blue for 1966 but they would be two different blue paints.

Not that I would put much stock in their color codes, but their shades seem very true to original colors and their paint was a perfect match for my 68 Pontiac.

You may have markings written by a marker from the factory under the hood...Those are actually paint codes if you can read them.

Do you have any pics of that? I mention this because paint chips for Dodge trucks do not even list "codes" on the paint chip pages. The only numbers on the paint chip pages are the "formula" numbers that the company uses. For example, the 1968 Turquoise paint number for DuPont is 94966

My bad Jim, I didn’t mean to imply that I had or knew of a Dodge paint code rather that I’d discovered a web site that assisted me in finding the paint manufacture codes so that I could have the color mixed. Fortunately my truck still had the original (faded) paint on it when I purchased it. I agree it’s rather odd that Dodge didn’t assign paint codes to their trucks, only the cars?
It wasn’t hard to match my color because their was only two yellows in 1968 (school bus & Mojave) to choose from. Knowing the truck wasn’t a school bus it had to be Mojave, my paint & body guy confirmed it as well before spraying my truck. I’d advise anyone looking to restore their truck to its original color to to look in places that wouldn’t have been sprayed over during a paint color change (door sills, bottom of the doors, under the door panels, under the dash, behind the fuel tank, etc.) for the original color then compare it to the colors on the web site listed.

this is a truck that lived 20 years of it's life on a southern colorado ranch.. a few days after it came home my gramps and granny loaded up and headed north.. along the newly opened alaskan high way..

i have my fingers out over colorado.. as well as some friends and family in other states.. i'm looking for a similarly aged(read:patina'd) swb bed and frame to start from.. i'm pretty sure this truck's frame is not sound.. nor straight..

You'd be surprised how stout these old frames are. Good ol American STEEL!

I got to thinking... "maybe"? that Dodge Truck did scribble a paint code using a grease pen for a "SPECIAL ORDER" color? That would make sense... But, MOPAR rarely made sense in those days

There is a code for the colors in the dealer guide.This is for '69 so it doesn't help the original question.
To mess things up even more,if you have a ('69)Canadian built truck the color codes are two letters instead of numbers.

that jibes with my 64 D100 build sheet... notice its paint code is "01" and mine is a black truck...



BTW - you'll note at the top of my build sheet there is "Paint SEQ" and Final Line SEQ" - "2269" is the little tag attached to the cab near the hood hinge and "L6168" was attached to the front of the bed near the driver side.

It was in the seat back springs along with another sheet that listed some part numbers in hand written scrawls. these parts were an outline for the HP Package.
