Hood wont close on the windshield side

Post by BillyBones »

So I bought a 62 Crew Cab and the hood wont close it stays up off the fender about an inch I did adjust the hinges at the fire wall but that only helped a bit. Has anyone had this problem or did someone swap the hinges maybe? Any suggestions?

One of the biggest causes of this is worn hood hinges.

Quick test - with the hood closed all the way, if you can push it down into a good fit then the hinges are likely worn out. It's a $150-200 fix.

It's in the pivots, you can't see it.

BUT you can adjust most of it out, follow the link posted and do all the tricks, you might get it pretty close anyway.

I took an extreme approach with one of my trucks. Shimming
didn't work and I didn't have a decent set of replacement hood
hinges so I popped off the hinge springs. It takes a bit
extra "umph" to raise it and also requires a pole to hold it up.
Its been my "temporary" fix for 8 years and counting....

Cool idea I'll give that a try. I put scrapped trunk shocks on my other truck so I might just do both.
